John A. Barron, 87, of Carmichaels, Pa., died at 11:15 P.M. on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 in his home. He was born in Fredericktown, Pa., a son of the late Frank and Anna Barron. Mr. Barron served with the U. S. Army Air Corps aboard B-24's with the 8th Air Force based in Tibenham, England. He flew 35 missions during World War II over Europe including the ill-fated Kassel Mission over Germany. After serving his country, Mr. Barron worked at the Crucible Fuel Company Mine until it closed and afterward for the McGraw Edison Company in Canonsburg, Pa. He retired from the U. S. Steel Robena Mine. Mr. Barron was a member of the St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church of Carmichaels, the Robina Local of the United Mine Workers of America and American Legion Post 816, Rices Landing, Pa. His American Legion membership totaled 56 years including his former membership with Cumberland American Legion Post 400. Mr. Barron was an avid gardener and enjoyed dancing. On August 15, 1953, he married Kathleen L. Timcheck, who survives. Also surviving are a son, John A. Barron, Jr. and his wife, Karen, of Apollo, Pa.; a daughter, Karen Hornick and her husband, Andrew, of Phoenix, Ariz.; eight grandchildren, John A. Barron, III, Angela Groves, Heath Worch, Heather Hiner, Macahan Worch, Amber Santucci, David Grimm and Autumn Barron; nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a daughter, Deborah J. Grimm and her husband, David; a brother, George Barron, who was killed in action during World War II and two sisters, Helen Pryor and Dorothy Harrison. Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 P.M. on Friday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. All are asked to meet by 9:30 A.M. on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at the funeral home in order to proceed in procession for a Mass of the Resurrection at 10:30 A.M. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Rices Landing with the Rev. Paul J. Grunebach as celebrant. Interment will follow at Greene County Memorial Park with full military honors accorded by American Legion Post 400, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491 and the U. S. Army.
