John R. Smith

John R. Smith, 87, of Silver Spring, Md., died at 9:01 A.M. on Saturday, October 13, 2012 in his home. He was born February 18, 1925 in Poolsville, Md. a son of the late John A. and Ida Mae (Rohman) Smith. Mr. Smith served with the 17th Airborne Division of the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He attended St. Peter's Catholic Church in Olney, Md. before recently attending Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Silver Spring. Mr. Smith was a member of American Legion Post 297, Baltimore, Md. and was dedicated to his job as a security officer for Suburban Bank (now Bank of America) in Rockledge, Md. He always tried to help others and was a dedicated husband. Surviving are his wife, Aniceta (Chacon) Smith, whom he married on November 25, 1980 and a sister, Ruth Broderick of Millsboro, Del. Deceased are his first wife, Margaret (Crago) Smith who died in 1979; a brother, Gilbert Smith and two sisters, Dorothy Smith and Edith Smith. Family and friends are welcome from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M., the time of a blessing service on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 in the Yoskovich Funeral Home (724-966-5500), Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director, 300 South Vine Street (Route 88), Carmichaels, Pa. The Rev. John M. Butler will officiate. Interment will follow at Hewitt Cemetery, Rices Landing with military honors accorded by Cumberland American Legion Post 400 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491.
