Frank Ray Kuis, Sr.

Frank "Ray" Kuis, Sr., 92, of Dilliner, Pa., died at 12:25 P.M. on Saturday, November 23, 2013 in his home. He was born November 17, 1921 in Greensboro, Pa., a son of the late Louis and Mary (Valant) Kuis. Mr. Kuis resided in Greene County all of his life and worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps before serving with the U. S. Navy as a Pharmacist Mate First Class from 1942 until 1945 in the South Pacific. He retired from the Consolidated Coal Company Humphrey No. 7 Mine and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local 1058. In addition, Mr. Kuis was a member of S. N. P. J. Lodge No. 87. He enjoyed cultivating grapes, making wine and listening to Slovenian button box music. He cherished his family, especially his grandchildren and enjoyed vacationing in Hawaii. On October 18, 1947, he married Virginia Cappellano, who died March 11, 2011. Surviving are two sons, Frank Kuis, Jr. and his wife, Deborah, of Dilliner and John Joseph Kuis and his wife, Debra, of Bobtown, Pa.; four daughters, Linda Christopher and her husband, Joseph, of Hope Mills, N. C., Karen Rae Kuis Zelko, wife of the late Dr. John Zelko, of Hilo, Hawaii, Christine Menear and her husband, David, of Bobtown and Lisa Jackson, wife of the late Gregory Jackson, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; ten grandchildren, Richard Kuis, John Kuis, Kerissa Kuis, Lori DeVincentis, Kristin King, Julie Drummondo, Jennifer Schlueter, Ashly Menear, Sarah Jackson and Kathryn Jackson; nine great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Fiala of Dilliner and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are two brothers, John Kuis and Joseph Kuis and a sister, Angeline Vargo. Family and friends are welcome from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 P.M. on Monday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 A. M. on Tuesday, November 26, 2013. The Rev. Virginia Eberhart will officiate. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Point Marion, Pa. will military honors accorded by Cumberland American Legion Post 400, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491 and the U. S. Navy. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Amedisys Hospice, 2183 McClellandtown Rd, Masontown, PA 15461.
