H. Miller Barb, 90, of Greensboro (Mapletown), Pa., died at 10:43 A.M. on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Southwest Regional Medical Center, Waynesburg, Pa. He was born January 30, 1923 in Mapletown, a son of the late Charles Alexander and Lessie Nina (Minor) Barb. Mr. Barb was a graduate of Mapletown High School, received his bachelor's degree in 1948 from Waynesburg College and earned his masters degree in guidance counseling from West Virginia University. He served with the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II from February of 1943 until December of 1945 with the 2126th Army Air Force Base Unit as a gunnery instructor on B-17, B-24 and B-29 aircraft in the South Pacific. Mr. Barb taught school for one year at LaFayette Junior High School, Uniontown, Pa. and was a math teacher and guidance counselor at Mapletown High School, retiring in 1981. He served as a lay speaker, Sunday School superintendent and on various other committees at the Mapletown United Methodist Church. Mr. Barb also served as an assistant scout master for Troop 1270 in Bobtown and Mapletown. He was a member of Valley Lodge No. 459, F. & A. M., Masontown, Pa., a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Gideons International - Greene County Camp and the Cornerstone Genealogical Society. For many years Mr. Barb volunteered at the gift shop at the Greene County Memorial Hospital and delivered daffodils with his late wife, Dora, for the American Cancer Society. As a lifelong resident of Mapletown, Mr. Barb served as the sexton for the Monongahela Hill Cemetery since 1962. On June 11, 1948, he married Dora L. Dusenberry, who died September 10, 2013. Surviving are two daughters, Holly B. Stevenson and her husband, Gary, and Joy B. Born and her husband, Robert, all of Greensboro; seven grandchildren, Brian Stevenson, Sara Parker and her husband, Bill, Erin Stevenson, Walter Born, Amanda Adkins and her husband, Kris, Jeremy Born and Dale Born; four great grandchildren, Christopher, Brayden, Matthew and Kara. Also surviving are nieces and nephews. Deceased are a brother, Ewing Barb and a half brother, Charles Barbe. Family and friends are welcome from 6 to 8 P.M. on Wednesday, 2 to 4:30 and 6 to 8 P.M. on Thursday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. and also from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M., the hour of service on Friday, January 17, 2014 at the Mapletown United Methodist Church, Greensboro, Pa. The Reverends John W. Hodge and Kenneth A. Haines will officiate. Interment will follow at Monongahela Hill Cemetery, Mapletown with military honors accorded by Cumberland American Legion Post 400, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491 and the United States Air Force. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to either the Mapletown United Methodist Church, 926 Mapletown Rd., Greensboro, PA 15338 or to Gideons International.
