Dorothy L. "Queenie" Black, 85, of Garards Fort, Pa., died unexpectedly at 5:12 P. M. on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the Washington Hospital, Washington, Pa. She was born May 16, 1928 in Monongahela Township, Greene County, Pa., a daughter of the late Cecil David and Pansy Irene (VanFossen) Metcalf. Mrs. Black resided in Garards Fort since 1952 where she was a member of the John Corbly Memorial Baptist Church. At the church, she served as a kindergarten Sunday school teacher and a Baptist Youth Fellowship counselor. Mrs. Black also served as a 4-H leader. For a number of years, she worked at Greenway Manufacturing. On February 11, 1949, she married Robert E. Black, who died August 30, 2004. Surviving are a daughter, Linda D. Helmick and her husband, Chipper, of Garards Fort; four grandchildren, Steven Black, Keith Helmick, Bobbie Lynn Cooper and Misty Renee Black; 11 great grandchildren; a brother, Cecil Metcalf of Carmichaels, Pa. and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a son, Robert C. Black; three brothers, Leslie Metcalf, who died in infancy, Willard Metcalf, who died in childhood and Charles E. "Sonny" Metcalf and a sister, Maxine Kovach. Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P. M. on Tuesday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 with Pastor Gary Whipkey officiating. Interment will follow at Greene County Memorial Park, Waynesburg, Pa. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the John Corbly Memorial Baptist Church, Garards Fort, PA 15334.
