Emil Zubal

Emil Zubal, 89 of Carmichaels, Pa., passed away at 7:10 A.M. on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 in his daughter Sharon's home in Morgantown, W. Va. He was born February 16, 1925 in Thompson No. 2, Fayette County, Pa., a son of the late George Leslie and Anna Elizabeth (Hudock) Zubal. Mr. Zubal was a proud U. S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a 69 year member of the Carmichaels and Cumberland Township Volunteer Fire Company. Volunteerism was very important to Emil as he served on the fire company's bingo committee for over 30 years. In addition, he was a member of the Greene County Firemen's Association, the Western Pennsylvania Firemen's Association and its Past Presidents and Old Timers and the Southwestern Pennsylvania Chief's and Assistant Chief's Association. Mr. Zubal was a member and served as an usher at the St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church in Carmichaels, was a fourth degree member of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Council 3569 of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Holy Name Society. He was also a member of Cumberland American Legion Post 400, Carmichaels, Faith Gray McArdle Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4584, Masontown, Pa. and United Mine Workers of America Nemacolin Local 6290. Mr. Zubal worked at the Nemacolin Mine as a certified welder until his retirement in 1985 and resided in Carmichaels most of his life. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid sports fan. Mr. Zubal played baseball in his youth and during his time in the Army. He and his wife, Agnes Susan (Salopek) Zubal, who passed away on May 15, 2006, liked to travel and visit with their children. Surviving are two children, Sharon Ann Puskar and her husband, Gregory, with whom he made his home in Morgantown and John Emil Zubal of Jonesboro, Ga.; three sisters, Madeline Zubal Morelli, Rita Zubal Holmes and her husband, James, and Loretta Zubal Yorko, all of Carmichaels and a sister-in-law, Judy Zubal of Latrobe, Pa. Deceased are a brother, George M. Zubal; a sister, Dolores Zubal Allison and a nephew, Ronnie Morelli. Family and friends are welcomed from 4 to 8 P.M. on Friday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 A. M. on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church, 408 Route 88, Carmichaels with the Rev. John M. Bauer as celebrant. There will be no viewing or service at the funeral home on Saturday. The Carmichaels Honor Guard and the U. S. Army will accord military honors immediately after the funeral Mass at St. Hugh. Private interment will take place at Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa. A parish vigil service will take place at 6:00 P.M. on Friday in the funeral home followed at 7:00 P.M. by a memorial service by the Carmichaels and Cumberland Township Volunteer Fire Company.
