James "Jim" C. Hathaway, 79 of Carmichaels, Pa. died Friday, October 3, 2014 following a lengthy illness. He was born June 14, 1935 in Carmichaels, a son of the late Thomas Jones and Anna (Bystry) Hathaway. Jim attended Cumberland Township High School and served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He was owner/operator of J & M Cutter Grinding, near Carmichaels. He contributed greatly to the building of the Greene Valley Church of God. Jim considered himself a "Street Preacher" for over 40 years his mission and greatest love was telling everyone about the saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. He was a big supporter of Gideon Bible International Ministry, both in the United States and overseas, ministering in India was a highlight. He was a former member of the Carmichaels Area School District Board and an enthusiastic supporter of athletic events, especially those that involved his children and grandchildren. Jim and his wife opened their home to anyone in need. He never met a stranger, always looking to share his blessings with others. His greatest testimony was the life that he lived before others and His greatest accomplishment was his family, whom he cherished and loved unconditionally. On June 21, 1992 he married Sharon (Crockett) Hathaway of Carmichaels, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Rev. Jeff Hathaway, and his wife, Holly of Carmichaels, Luke Hathaway of Atlanta, Ga. and Ben Hathaway of Carmichaels; seven daughters, Jackie Workman, and her partner, Tara Kinsell of Carmichaels, Susan Rivers, and her husband, Randy of Cumming, Ga., Mary Lynn Gaydos, and her husband, Mark of Uniontown, Pa., Latasha (Bird) Hathaway of Madison, Al., Tiffany Hathaway, and her partner, Curtis Litton of Nemacolin, Pa., Loral Hathaway and Moriah Hathaway both at home; grandchildren, Jeffrey Hathaway, Quincy Hathaway, Sarah Hathaway, Rachael Hathaway, Aaron Workman (Mary), Arielle Workman, Alyssa Workman, Zack Kinsell, Jake Kinsell, Jordan Kinsell, Ryan Rivers, Mikayla Rivers, Ethan Rivers, Colson Rivers, Mackenzie Metcalf, Ty Metcalf, Savannah Metcalf, Mark Gaydos Jr., Gage Edwards, Addison Litton, Brayden Litton and one great granddaughter, Lucy Jae Workman; a brother, Brian Hathaway, and his wife, Terry of Carmichaels and sister, LaVonne Vasquez,and her husband P.J. of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. Also surviving are several Aunts, nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to his parents is his first wife, Mary Ann (Rastoka) Hathaway, who died March 20, 1992 a brother, Thomas "Tinker" Hathaway and sisters, Delores Waggett and Margaret "Margie" Levie. Family and friends are welcomed from 6 to 8 P.M. Sunday and 2 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home Carmichaels, Pa. Additional visitation will take place one hour prior to the funeral services on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. in the Greene Valley Church of God, 558 Crucible Rd., Rices Landing, Pa. 15357 with the Rev. Frank Menhart officiating. Interment will follow in Laurel Point Cemetery, Carmichaels. Graveside military rites will be accorded by the Cumberland American Legion Post 400 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491.
