Ronald Novotny, 64, of Carmichaels, Pa., died Sunday morning, October 26, 2014 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Aspinwall, Pa. He was born October 4, 1950 in Uniontown, Pa., a son of the late Frank John and Dolores Jean (Campbell) Novotny. Mr. Novotny was a 1968 graduate of Albert Gallatin High School at Friendship Hill, New Geneva, Pa. and served in the U. S. Navy during Vietnam on the USS Loraine County and USS Talbot County. He resided in Carmichaels since 1989 where he was a member of the St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church. Mr. Novotny worked as an explosive technician for Dupont in Dunbar, Pa., an operating room technician at the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W. Va. and also as a paramedic for American Ambulance in Uniontown. In addition, he worked for United Defense in Uniontown and later BAE Systems until the company closed in 2010. Mr. Novotny was last employed as a bus and diesel mechanic for First Student in Carmichaels. He played with the country band, National Express and enjoyed singing with his family at the St. Hugh Parish Churches from 1999 until 2012. Mr. Novotny was an avid golfer and fisherman and enjoyed camping with his family. On May 24, 1980, he married Kathleen A. Oravets, who survives. Also surviving are a son Joshua L. Novotny, at home; a daughter, Amber N. Novotny of Uniontown and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. on Tuesday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. where a blessing service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, followed at 11:00 A. M. by a Mass of the Resurrection at St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. John M. Bauer as celebrant. Military honors will be accorded by Cumberland American Legion Post 400, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491 and the U. S. Navy at St. Mary's Cemetery, Leckrone, Pa. A vigil service will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday in the funeral home.
