Susan Sokol Hillsman

Susan Sokol Hillsman, 97, of Carmichaels and formerly of Nemacolin, Pa., died Sunday evening, October 4, 2015 at the Golden LivingCenter, Waynesburg, Pa. She was born August 30, 1918 in Crucible, Pa., a daughter of the late Andrew and Mary (Sokol) Sokol, Sr. Mrs. Hillsman lived her entire life in the Carmichaels and Cumberland Township area and retired in 1980 as a cook for the former Curry Memorial Home in Waynesburg. She was a member of the Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church in Nemacolin, the Altar Rosary Society of the Church and the Cumberland American Legion Post 400 Ladies Auxiliary. Her husband, Stephen A. Hillsman, Sr. died on October 13, 1966. Surviving are a son, Stephen A. Hillsman, Jr. of Carmichaels; four grandsons, James G. Kelley, Jr. and his companion, Dorothy Kelley, of Mentor, Ohio, Gregory Hillsman and his companion, Bonnie Cunningham of Rices Landing, Pa., David Hillsman and his wife, Kathy, of Carmichaels and Todd Hillsman and his wife, Jennifer, of Mentor; eleven great grandchildren, Erin, Jaime, Emily, Nicholas, Zachary, Carson, McKenzie, Morgan, Sydney, Lacie and Casey; three great great grandchildren, Ainslee, Greyson and Gracie Jo; several nieces and nephews including Marilyn Riggen and Stephanie Havanas and her caregiver, Debbie Bregan. Deceased are four brothers, Joseph Sokol, Stephen Sokol, Andrew Sokol, Jr. and Frank Sokol and five sisters, Elizabeth King, Anna Elek, Mary Smollek, Margaret Helisek and Katherine Havanas. Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. on Wednesday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. where a blessing service will held at 10:15 A.M. on Thursday, October 8, 2015, followed at 11:00 A.M. by a Mass of the Resurrection at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Crucible, Pa. The Rev. J. Francis Frazer will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Crucible.
