Dewey Lawrence, 66, of Carmichaels, Pa., died at 4:44 P.M. on Sunday, February 21, 2016 in his home. He was born July 3, 1949 in Morgantown, W. Va., a son of the late Robert Eugene and Josephine Winifred (Nuce) Lawrence, Sr. Mr. Lawrence was 1968 graduate of the former Albert Gallatin High School at Friendship Hill and resided in Carmichaels since 1972. He served with the U. S. Marine Corps in Vietnam and was awarded a Purple Heart for his injuries sustained in action. Mr. Lawrence worked at the Duquesne Light Warwick Mine until the mine closed. He then worked at West Virginia University in asbestos abatement until his retirement.
Mr. Lawrence was a member and former trustee of the Carmichaels United Methodist Church and attended Sunday school regularly. He was a member of American Legion Post 423 in Masontown, Pa. and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6303 in Greensboro, Pa. Mr. Lawrence served as commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491 in Carmichaels. He was an avid golfer and worked as a ranger at the Carmichaels Golf Club. Mr. Lawrence also enjoyed hunting and fishing and playing rook with his buddies in Carmichaels. He cherished his family and loved his Lord. On August 12, 1968, he married Cheryl A. Hartley, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Jamie Lawrence and his wife, Laura, of Carmichaels and Adam Lawrence, at home; a daughter, Martha A. Ochkie and her husband, John, of Carmichaels; seven grandchildren, Kayla Longstreth and her fiancé, Chase Ayers, Jeremy Lawrence, Jared Lawrence, Taylore Ochkie, Jonathan Ochkie, Joshua Ochkie and Olivia Lawrence; a brother, Robert E. Lawrence, Jr. and his wife, Selene, of Lake Lynn, Pa.; a sister, Jean Noakes of Uniontown, Pa. and several special nieces and nephews that he cherished. Deceased is a great grandson, Hunter Lafe McAdoo.
Family and friends are welcome from 4 to 9 P.M. on Tuesday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. where the funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 24, 2016. The Rev. Bruce R. Judy will officiate.
Interment will follow at Glades Cemetery, Carmichaels with military honors accorded by the Carmichaels Honor Guard and the U. S. Marine Corps.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Carmichaels First United Methodist Church, 104 W. South Street, Carmichaels, PA 15320.
