Mark C. Vernon, 43, of Vilseck, Germany and formerly of Dilliner, Pa., died Sunday, October 23, 2016 in Germany. He was born September 28, 1973 in Waynesburg, Pa., a son of Shirl J. and Neila (Frederick) Vernon of Dilliner. Mr. Vernon served with the United States Army as a tank commander and retired after 20 years in October of 2015. During his military career, he served three tours of duty in Iraq and received the Bronze Star Medal. Mr. Vernon was working for the United States government in Germany at the time of his passing. He was a Methodist and a member of the Fort Jackson Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, Waynesburg. Mr. Vernon enjoyed making and playing guitars and also riding his mountain bike in Europe.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Nicole Vernon; three step daughters, Jessica Hanysz, Tiffany Hanysz and Dana Hanysz, all of Germany; a sister, Diane Kalafsky and her husband, Stephen, of Masontown, Pa. and a nephew, Stephen Matthew Kalafsky of Masontown.
Family and friends are welcome from 6 to 8 P.M. on Wednesday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday in the funeral home. The Revs. Erwin Wilson and Bev Roscoe will officiate.
Family and friends are asked to meet for the graveside committal service at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Garards Fort Cemetery. Full military honors will be accorded by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 747 and the United States Army.
The family requests that contributions be made to the family to help defray funeral costs.
