Frank J. Mocniak, Jr., 88, of Headlee Heights, Garards Fort, Pa., passed away on Friday, November 11, 2016 at his home. He was born July 14, 1928 in Bobtown, Pa., the son of the late Frank and Sophia (Tokarczyk) Mocniak. Mr. Mocniak attended Point Marion High School. He retired in July, 1990, from the Shannopin Mining Company in Bobtown after 43 years and was a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 6159. Mr. Mocniak was a member of St. Ann Roman Catholic Church which he faithfully attended with his wife and family.
Mr. Mocniak was a well known musician and in his younger days, played the saxophone in several dance bands in the Pennsylvania and West Virginia area. For the past several years he volunteered and entertained on the Hammond Organ for his many dear friends at the Rolling Meadows Nursing Home in Waynesburg. Mr. Mocniak enjoyed aviation and was a pilot and model airplane builder and enthusiast. Many of his models were displayed at the Waynesburg airport and restaurant at one time. On July 8, 1950, he married Wilma "Jean" Shehl with whom he shared his love and his heart for the past 66 years.
Left to cherish his memory in addition to his wife, Jean, are his five children, Francine Mocniak of Morgantown, W. Va., Marty Mocniak and his wife, Lois, of Greensboro, Pa., Randy Mocniak and his wife, Robin, of Morgantown, W. Va., Jacki Wade and her husband Doug of Blacksville, W. Va. and Judi Pekar and her husband, Thomas, of Headlee Heights; 12 grandchildren, Annie Parker (Tab), Doug Mocniak (Leeann), Megan Cameron (Jacob), Matthew Mocniak, Lucas Mocniak, Chelsi Greco (Nick), Ben Wade, Josh Wade (Rachel), Ashley Morgan (Adam), Tony Liberatore, Jenna Liberatore and Joel Pekar; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Dolores Walcek (Stanley) of Bethany Beach, Del. and Pearl Mokski (Don) of Carlsbad, Calif.; several nieces and nephews and many dear friends and neighbors. Deceased in addition to his parents are a sister, Joan Mocniak and his in-laws, Bill and Fannie Shehl.
Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. on Sunday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home (724-966-5500), Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director, 300 South Vine Street (Route 88), Carmichaels, Pa.
