Earnest William Vannicola, Sr., age 91 of Greensboro, Pa. went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 5:27 p.m. in his home. He was born January 13, 1926, in Greensboro, a son of the late Fillipo Vannicola and Maggie (Gary) Rappaport. Mr. Vannicola was a veteran of WW II, having served as a Corporal in the US Army. Upon his return he resided in Greensboro most of his life, where he worked at the Duquesne Light Warwick Mine as a motorman until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local 6310, former Holy Family Catholic Church, Greensboro, current member of St. Ignatius of Antioch Parish Roman Catholic Church, Bobtown, Pa., president of the former Sportsman Club, Greensboro, life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6303, Greensboro, Cumberland American Legion Post 400, Carmichaels, Pa., Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 819, Carmichaels and was an avid card player. On June 27, 1953 he married Rose Ann (Guman) Vannicola, who died December 11, 2011.
Surviving is a son Ernest W. Vannicola, Jr., and his wife, Kelleen of Greensboro, a daughter Denise Shoaf, and her husband, Thomas of Carmichaels; six grandchildren, Gianna R. Burnsworth and her fiancé, William Fotta, Whitney Vannicola-Zoldak and her husband, Alan, Jaclyn Spitznogle and her husband, Justin, Suzanna Shoaf and her companion, Scott Bell, Tommy Shoaf and Tyler Shoaf; three great grandchildren, Rose L. Fotta, Sebastian B. Zoldak and Vivanna Bell, a special nephew Phil Butcho, and his wife, Kim and niece Linda Collins and her husband, Chuck and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Deceased is a sister Margaret Butcho.
