C. Wade Hartley

October 13, 1923 — March 23, 2017

Chester Wade Hartley, 93, of Carmichaels, Pa. and formerly of Springfield, Missouri, died at 9:10 P.M. on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Rolling Meadows, Waynesburg, Pa. He was born October 13, 1923 in Arno, Mo., a son of the late Albert and Ethel (Wade) Hartley. Mr. Hartley graduated from Ava High School and Southwest Missouri State University with a degree in education. He served in the 8th Air Force 2nd Air Division during World War II and flew 35 missions over Germany and France in 1944 with the 448th Bomb Group as a tail gunner on a B24. He was promoted to staff sergeant and was awarded the Air Medal.

After his military service, Mr. Hartley taught at Birch Tree and Crane High School and then worked 32 years in industry with Ford, Lily Tulip and SRC. He enjoyed serving as usher and greeter at Asbury United Methodist Church in Springfield where he was a longtime member. Mr. Hartley was an avid fan of the Lady Bears and the Kansas City Royals and enjoyed attending Air Force reunions. A special highlight of his life was going on the Ozark Honor Flight on April 12, 2011 to Washington, D. C.

On July 7, 1946, he married Sybil A. Sell, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Lorna K. Larson and her husband, Keith, with whom he made his current home in Carmichaels; three granddaughters, Sarah Traylor and her husband, Ethan, Elizabeth Larson and Priscilla Larson; three nieces, Linda Phipps and her husband, Marvin, Cindy Fehlauer and her husband, Donald, and Debbie Hartley; four nephews, Kenneth Seybert and his wife, Cathy, Dennis Seybert and Chris Douglas and his wife, Georgia, and Michael Hartley and two sisters-in-law, Elda Layman and her husband, Fred, and Theresa Hartley. Deceased are two sisters, Christine Henley and Thelma Seybert and a brother, Wallace Hartley.

Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. on Tuesday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, 104 East Greene Street, Carmichaels. The Rev. P. Keith Larson will officiate. Following the funeral service, military honors will be accorded at 2:30 P.M. at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, 1158 Morgan Road, Bridgeville, Pa. by the Carmichaels Honor Guard and the United States Air Force.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, 1500 S Campbell Ave., Springfield, MO 65807 or to the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 363, Carmichaels, PA 15320.
