C. David Kelso, 80, of Avella, PA, died peacefully on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 with loved ones by his side. He was born May 11, 1937, a son of the late Clarence W. "Bud" and Dorothy M. (Plance) Kelso. Mr. Kelso attended Hickory High School and retired in 2000 from Amity Asphalt after years of working as a heavy equipment mechanic. He attended the Hickory United Evangelical Presbyterian Church, was one of the founding members the Indian Springs Rod and Gun Club, and was a past member of the Mount Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department. As an avid hunter, he was very proud to have bagged a Pennsylvania elk. Mr. Kelso took great pride in maintaining and mowing his property. On October 19, 1957 he married his wife of almost 60 years, Norma Jean Carl, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Cheryl (Bryan) Bell of Hickory; two grandchildren, Maria (Vincent) Dunn of Eighty Four, PA and Bryan (Renae) Bell of West Middletown, PA; three great grandchildren, Rylan and Kiersten Bell and Vincent Dunn, Jr.; two step great grandchildren, Alyssa and Kayla Horner; a brother, Robert Kelso of Melbourne, FL and several nieces and nephews. Deceased is a son, Richard David Kelso.
Friends will be received from 1:00 to 3:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, July 14 in the Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Ave., Washington, PA where the funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 15, 2017, with Pastor Gary Gibson officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Prospect Cemetery, Hickory, PA. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Concordia Hospice of Washington – Donnell House, 10 Leet St., Washington, PA 15301 or to the Hickory United Evangelical Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 97, Hickory, PA 15340.
