John R. "Moon" Mallory, 87, formerly of Nemacolin, Pa., died unexpectedly at 3:02 P.M. on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W. Va. He was born December 3, 1929 in German Township, Fayette County, Pa., a son of the late Lawrence Andrew and Effie Devona (Bowen) Mallory. Mr. Mallory attended German Township High School and served with the U. S. Army. He worked and retired as an assemblyman for the General Motors Corporation in Cleveland, Ohio and resided in Nemacolin from 1964 until 2015. Mr. Mallory enjoyed hunting, swimming, county league baseball, country music and listening to polkas on the radio. He was a faithful member of the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church in Carmichaels, Pa. On April 20, 1952, he married Dolores Jean Wilson, who died September 24, 2006.
Surviving are two sons, John R. Mallory, Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Forest, Vir. and Bruce R. Mallory of Carmichaels; a daughter, Devonna Jean "Dee" Malesky of Masontown, Pa.; five grandchildren, Matthew Mallory, Melissa Mallory, Meridith Kozera and her husband, Alex, Mallory Walters and her husband, Mark and Robert T. Mallory; a great granddaughter, Marlowe Walters; a brother, Theodore Mallory of Wildomar, Calif. and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are an infant son and a brother, Lawrence Mallory.
Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. on Monday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, August 22, 2017. Rev. P. Keith Larson will officiate.
Interment will follow at Church Hill Cemetery, McClellandtown, Pa. with military honors accorded by the Carmichaels Honor Guard.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 363, Carmichaels, PA 15320.
