William J. Guidas, 90, of Mather, Pa. and formerly of Orlando, Fla. and Nemacolin, Pa., died at 9:40 A.M. on Sunday, January 14, 2018 in his home. He was born October 27, 1927 in Hunker, Pa., a son of the late John and Mabel Mae (Perkins) Guidas. Mr. Guidas was a 1945 graduate of German Township High School and received a bachelors degree in business administration from Waynesburg College. He served with the U. S. Navy from 1945 to 1947 and worked for the U. S. Steel Corporation Robena Mine as an accountant for 34 years until his retirement in 1983. Mr. Guidas was a member of the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church in Carmichaels, Pa. where he served as an deacon and an elder. He was also a member of Valley Lodge No. 459, F. & A. M. in Masontown, Pa. and Bahia Shrine Temple, Orlando, Fla. In addition, Mr. Guidas was a member of the Barbershop Chorus in Uniontown, Pa. for 27 years. His wife, Colin Marie (Faulkner) Guidas, survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Diane L. Benamati and her husband, Frank, of Mather, Pa.; two grandchildren, David Benamati and Bernard Benamati; a step grandson, Kenneth Byers; two great grandchildren, Dominic and Blake Benamati and another due in June; a brother, Lloyd C. Guidas of North Huntingdon, Pa.; a step son, Kenneth L. Byers (Carol Leigh) of Norfolk, Va.; a step daughter, Cheryl M. Byers of North Carolina and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are his first wife, Mary Louise "Clem" (Clemsic) Guidas; his second wife, Eleanor M. (Machesky) Guidas; a son, Thomas W. Guidas and two brothers, George and John H. Guidas.
At Mr. Guidas' request, there will be no public viewing and a memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, January 26, 2018 at the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, 104 East Greene Street, Carmichaels, Pa. The Rev. P. Keith Larson will officiate.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
