Leonard Udovich, 90, of Nemacolin, Pa., died at 7:15 A.M. on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at his home. He was born December 5, 1927 in Crucible, Pa., a son of the late John and Lena (Pakish) Udovich. Leonard was a graduate of Cumberland Township High School and served with the U. S. Marine Corps during World War II. He had worked at Carmichaels Mining Machine Repair in Carmichaels, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and retired as maintenance foreman from the Maple Creek Mine. Leonard resided in Nemacolin since 1954 where he was a member of the Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church. He devoted much of his time and talent to maintaining and sustaining the churches and cemetery of the Our Lady of Consolation Parish.
Leonard was a member of Cumberland American Legion Post 400, the United Mine Workers of America and was chairman of the Crucible Veterans Memorial. In 1999, he and his family restarted the custom of having a parish festival at St. Mary's Church in Crucible every September. Leonard enjoyed spending summer vacations at the beach with his family and friends. Nearly daily, he would spend his evening time with his sisters and family at Stush's and Leona's "Polish Park" in Crucible. On January 23, 1950, he married Dorothy Repko, who died June 2, 1999.
Surviving are a son, Leonard Udovich and his wife, Gema, of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; a daughter, Angela Ryan and her husband, Duane, of Hershey, Pa.; two step grandchildren, Romona and Damein Harris; a sister, Leona Block and her husband, Stanley, of Crucible; a sister-in-law, Sharon R. Udovich of Crucible and a special friend and companion, Patricia Brozik of Crucible. Deceased are two brothers, John Leon Udovich and Lawrence "Hobo" Udovich and a sister, Louise Weaver.
Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. on Tuesday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. where a blessing service will be held at 10:15 A.M. on Wednesday, February 21, 2018. A Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, Nemacolin, Pa. with the Rev. John M. Bauer as celebrant.
Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Crucible with military honors accorded by American Legion Post 400 and the U. S. Marine Corps.
A vigil service will take place at 3:45 P.M. on Tuesday in the funeral home.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor's choice.
