Amy Lynn Stout, 43, of Greensboro, Pa., and formerly of Laurel, Md., passed away at 3:22 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family after a courageous seven-year battle with brain cancer. She was born June 23, 1976 in Morgantown, W. Va., a daughter of Diane Tencer Lavery (John) and Donald Stout (Judy).
Amy was a 1994 graduate of Albert Gallatin High School. She earned her Bachelor of Arts at California University of Pennsylvania. While earning her degree, she was Field Commander for the Vulcan Marching Band. She moved to Laurel, Md. and earned her Master of Arts at McDaniel College. Through her love of education and passion for helping children, she was employed by Prince Georges County Public Schools for sixteen years. She served as an elementary school teacher at Seabrook Elementary, an Assistant Principal at Laurel Elementary and a Principal at Langley Park-McCormick Elementary. With her warm smile and loving heart, she touched the lives of students, teachers and staff members. She was honored by the Board of Education with a Certificate of Recognition as a 2012 Washington Post Distinguished Educational Leadership Award Nominee. She led numerous projects to advance the school community, such as renovating the library, purchasing new playground equipment, creating a cafeteria mural and planting a community butterfly garden. Amy was a member of the Ladies of Charity at St. Mary's of the Mill in Laurel, Md. She returned home to Greensboro in 2018 to be close to her family after recovering from her fourth brain surgery, radiation treatments and chemotherapy.
Family and friends will remember Amy for her strengths of love, leadership, gratitude, kindness and love of learning. Her willingness to help others continued as she enjoyed volunteering at St. John the Evangelist Regional Catholic School. Amy also loved shopping, going to concerts and traveling. Amy had a way of making everyone feel welcomed as she had many loving and faithful friends. She relished spending time with her family for gatherings at the Flats (Greensboro) and doing fun craft projects. Amy will forever be deeply loved by her family, especially by her niece and nephew.
Surviving in addition to Amy's parents are her paternal grandmother, Ruby Sweitzer; maternal grandparents, Albert and Margaret (Kovach) Tencer; an aunt, Kimberly Tencer; a sister, Renee Stout (Ryan Sackett); a sister, Gianna Barrera (Byron); a niece, Nicole Barrera and a nephew, Byron Barrera.
Due to the COVID19 regulations, services are private at the Yoskovich Funeral Home in Carmichaels, Pa.
A private family memorial service will be presided by Pastor Jim Engle of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Uniontown, Pa.
