Bernadette Markulik Emilio

May 20, 1959 — August 3, 2025

Uniontown

Bernadette Markulik Emilio, 66, of Uniontown, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2025 in WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born on May 20, 1959, in Waynesburg Hospital, the daughter of the late Bernard Adam and Dolores Ann (Lescar) Markulik.

In 1977, Bernadette graduated from John Marshall High School in Cleveland, Ohio. She went on to obtain her STNA certification to become a nursing assistant in Ohio. She also attended cosmotoloegy school. Bernadette was a member of the St. Matthias Parish at St. Hugh in Carmichaels.

Bernadette's hobbies included crocheting, doing her nails, and listening to music. She absolutely loved to dance and belt out her favorite tune. She had a love for fashion that was unmatched. Nothing could beat a great outfit, with the right jewelry, and always, a pair of pointed-toe high heels. You could guarantee that every finger on each hand would have at least one ring on it, and she could never have too many gold necklaces. To say shopping was one of her favorite things to do would be an understatement. There was never a good deal that she'd turn down. Her shopping often left the girls so riddled with boredom that they'd play hide and seek in the circular racks, which resulted in their names being called over the store intercoms a time or two.

Although fashion and shopping were high on the list of favorites, her daughters and grandchildren took up her whole heart. Bernadette's role as a grandmother brought her so much joy. It was a title that she wore proudly. She cherished every single moment spent with her daughters and grandchildren. The suffering that Bernadette endured over the years was great, but she never gave up and remained incredibly strong through it all. She instilled that exact strength and resiliency in her daughters.

Bernadette's memory will live on through her family. Surviving are her two daughters, Krystle Pappalardo (Anthony), and Alicia Emilio; three grandchildren, Camilla, Vinny, and Ezra; sister, Sharon L. Centner (David) of Medina, Ohio; brothers, Jeffrey F. Markulik (Mark) of Atlantic Beach, Fla., and David W. Markulik (Christine) of Parma, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Brenda Ann Markulik.

The family extends their deep appreciation for the wonderful care provided by WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital and Amedisys Hospice.
