Betty Mae Waggett

Emblem

Betty Mae Waggett, 95, of Carmichaels, formerly of Mapletown, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. Born on June 4, 1930, in Monongahela Township, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Mabel (Tanner) Watson.

Betty Mae graduated from Mapletown High School, Class of 1948. On June 26, 1948, she wed her beloved D. Leroy Waggett. They built a beautiful life together, devoted to one another for 67 years until his passing on November 21, 2015.

Betty Mae was a longtime member of Nemacolin Presbyterian Church, before becoming a member of Greene Valley Presbyterian Church. Her devotion to her faith was admirable. Betty Mae played organ and piano at both churches, sang in the choir, and directed the youth and teen choirs. She was involved in Release Time Bible Class. She had a passion for singing and shared her beautiful voice with the California University Choir, community choirs, at weddings and social events, and visited nursing homes alongside Sweet Expressions. Her greatest contribution was passing down the joy of music to her family, all the way to her great-grandchildren. Betty Mae was also involved with the Cub Scouts and 4-H.

Left to carry on her legacy are her son, Donald L. Waggett (Pauline) of San Diego, Calif.; daughters, Beverly Kipfer (Don) of Meadville, Pa., Betsy Marks of Ashland, Va., Bernice Jeffrey (Chris) of Garards Fort, and Beth Gould (Ryan) of Bahama, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Ruth A. Osborne (Gary) of Carmichaels; grandchildren, Joyce, Jack, Jeff, Joe, Justine, Shawn, Aaron, Hannah, Ully, Ashley, Christopher, Megan, and Jacob; great-grandchildren, AJ, Katie, McKinley, Gracie, Tasso, Taleah, Dayden, Kian, Jayce, Watson, Baya, Stacee, Kiera, Leroy, and Lyra; special nephew, Lee Watson, who brightened her Thursday nights; along with several nieces and nephews. Family was the cornerstone of Betty Mae’s life. She delighted in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom held a very special place in her heart.

In addition to her husband and parents, Betty Mae was preceded in death by her sons, William R. Waggett and Jack K. Waggett; brothers, Bobby Watson and Bill Watson; and sister, Jean Marie Keener.

Family and friends are welcome from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, in the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, 104 East Greene Street, Carmichaels. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Andrew Freed officiating.
