Carolyn was a graduate of New Kensington High School, class of 1948. A year later, she married Donald G. Mitchell. Together they shared 68 wonderful years, until his passing on April 28, 2018. She was a long-time member of the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church in Carmichaels, where she sang in the choir and in the former Daughters of Grace, and was a member of the Women in the Church (WIC). Carolyn was also a member of the Carmichaels Civic Club. Throughout her life, and right to the very end, she found joy and comfort in singing hymns, a testament to her unwavering faith.

Carolyn loved to travel with her family, often for weeks at a time. She especially enjoyed her trips out west with her grandchildren, venturing to Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, and Glacier National Park. Carolyn was a very talented seamstress.
