Dorothy M. Helmick

Dorothy M. Helmick, 92, of Carmichaels, Pa., passed away at 4:48 P.M. on Thursday, January 21, 2021 in her home. She was born June 20, 1928 in Nemacolin, Pa., a daughter of the late William Roy and Isa (Lane) Alderson. Mrs. Helmick was a graduate of Cumberland Township High School and resided in the Carmichaels area all of her life and was a Presbyterian. She first worked as a telephone operator in Carmichaels before working as a cashier at Honsaker's Cloverfarm and Foodland. Mrs. Helmick served as the first female mayor of the Borough of Carmichaels. She enjoyed bowling and fishing and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan. Mrs. Helmick cherished the company of her family, especially her grandchildren. On December 17, 1948, she married William M. "Chip" Helmick, who died April 3, 1987.

Surviving are two sons, William "Chipper" Helmick (Linda) of Garards Fort, Pa. and Gerald "Jerry" Helmick (Bette Jo) of Carmichaels; four grandchildren, Keith Helmick (Linda), Sondra Lemley (James), Johnny Helmick (Jenn) and Jerry Helmick (Jenn); six great grandchildren, Madison and Morgan Helmick, Chance and Camryn Lemley and Garrett and Wyatt Helmick; a sister, Barbara Kelley of Jefferson, Pa. and several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to her husband is a brother, William "Butch" Alderson.

Funeral arrangement are private.

Private interment will take place at Greene County Memorial Park.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society of Greene County , 183 Jefferson Rd., Waynesburg, PA 15370.
