Earl "Lee" Mackey, 68, of Carmichaels, Pa., passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024 in his home. He was born May 24, 1955 in Lima, Ohio, a son of the late Earl L. and Alice V. (Wilyard) Mackey. Mr. Mackey was a 1973 graduate of Mapletown High School where he played the saxophone. Following graduation, he enlisted into the U. S. Marine Corps attaining the rank of gunnery sergeant until his retirement in 1993. Mr. Mackey served in the Marine Corps Enlisted Reserves for an additional 10 years following his retirement. Mr. Mackey enjoyed drag racing. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491, Carmichaels, a former member of the V. F. W. Band in Uniontown, Pa., the Midnighters Drum and Bugle Corp and the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau. He cherished his Border Collies and his cats. On August 15, 1973, he married Cynthia D. Boone, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Gunnery Sergeant Edward L. Mackey (Leann) of Montgomery, Ala.; a daughter, Darlene R. Mackey of Washington, D. C.; three grandchildren, Robert Edward Mackey, Samuel Aiden Mackey and Thomas Parker Mackey and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are two sisters, Sally Mackey and Joanna Frederick. Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. on Wednesday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 14, 2024. Pastor Tim Tanner will officiate. Interment will follow at Garards Fort Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church, Greensboro, PA 15338.
