Edward M. Modrick

April 10, 1952 — December 29, 2023

Edward M. Modrick, age 71 of Carmichaels, Pa. passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 29, 2023, in his home. He was born April 10, 1952, in Crucible, Pa., a son of the late Mike and Ada (Buskirk) Modrick.  On November 4, 1972, he married the love of his life, Kathleen Danforth, who survives.

Ed was a 1970 graduate of Carmichaels High School.  Having worked a variety of jobs as a young man, he worked at the Nemacolin and Bobtown mines for 17 years. Ed later worked as the custodian for the former Carmichaels First United Methodist Church and the Dominos restaurants in Carmichaels and Waynesburg.  He also worked at the former Waynesburg College, now Waynesburg University, in the maintenance and custodial departments for 22 years, having retired in 2018.  Ed wasn’t a man that could sit still for very long. In 2019, he acquired his CDL license and was currently driving bus for STA of Pennsylvania for the Carmichaels Area School District.

Ed enjoyed fishing and watching sports with his family. He was a true Mikes fan and supporter of all local athletes, oftentimes driving them to their events and offering them words of praise and encouragement.  He was especially supportive of his children and grandchildren, never missing any of their activities. Ed spent his whole life being an avid Steelers, Penguins and Pirates fan.  He was always active throughout the community, whether it was coaching his three daughters through the King Coal Softball League, volunteering as a church youth group leader, playing on the church dart ball teams, serving as president of the Carmichaels Area Band Boosters, and making his famous cabbage and noodles for various concession stands. He was always willing to lend a hand where he could.  Ed was a proud husband, father, father-in-law, brother, brother-in-law and uncle. However, his greatest title was “Pappy” to his ten grandchildren.  No matter what they were playing or participating in, he was their biggest fan and always there to cheer them on.  He was not only “Pappy” to his family, but he also became “Pappy” to everyone who knew him.

Also surviving are three daughters; Joanna L. Walker (Aaron), Melissa A. Christopher (Ryan) and Natalie M. Ray (Jason) all of Carmichaels; nine grandchildren, Ryan Michael Christoper, Jr. (Maria), Taylor, Peyton and Braden Christopher, Bradley, Brookelynn and Brenna Walker, Abby and Owen Ray; great granddaughter Cecilia Lois Christopher; sister-in-laws, Carol Modrick of Carmichaels and Adele Modrick of San Antonio, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.  Deceased in addition to his parents is a sister, Edna “Dolly” Cheshire and three brothers, Marvin L. Modrick, who died in infancy, John A. Modrick and Donald L. Modrick.

Family and friends are welcome on Monday, January 1, 2024, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa.  Additional visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at the Carmichaels Methodist Church, 104 W.
