Eldon Sherwood Christopher, 89, passed away August 26, 2024 following a lengthy illness. He was born May 11, 1935 in Dilliner, Pa., a son of the late Kermit and Mary (O’Neal) Christopher, right behind his beloved twin brother, Sheldon Elwood Christopher. Later the family moved to the Christopher Farm, situated in Carmichaels, Pa. near Khedive. Eldon attended the one room Craynes School in Homeville and graduated from Jefferson High School, Jefferson, Pa. Upon returning home from his military service, he studied first at Penn State and went on to earn his Business Administration degree from Waynesburg College in 1962.
Eldon served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956 and was honorably discharged as a Sgt. Tank Commander from the 2nd Armored Division at Ft. Hood, Texas. He later was employed by Ford Motor Co. in Cleveland, Ohio as a supervisor in the Standard Pressed Steel Division. Upon returning home, he and his brother John owned and operated the Dining Room Restaurant in Morgantown, W.Va. Afterward Eldon took over the management of his father’s convenience store in Dilliner, Pa., affectionately known in the area as “Christy’s”. Upon his father’s passing he continued to work there alongside his children until he retired. It didn’t take Eldon long to go back to work, spending time as a driver delivering parts in surrounding states and working for the Census Bureau. He traveled often with his sister, Shirley, venturing to the Mediterranean, Baltic Sea, Persian Gulf, South America and along the Danube River. In his most recent years his heartfelt desire was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, traveling to their sporting events or watching them play during family gatherings.
Eldon is survived by his son, Michael Larkin of Carmichaels, Pa. and his two, daughters Kayla and Addalei; two daughters, Melinda Larkin of Waynesburg, Pa. and her three children, Jonathon, Mary and Devon and Janice Kovach of Greensboro, Pa. and her two children, Jordan and Michael; his two precious great grandchildren, Ronan and Alli Jack.
