Elizabeth "Libby" Ellen Youhouse Smitley, 101, of Nemacolin, Pennsylvania, passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2026. Born on November 12, 1924, in Arnold City, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Joseph A. Youhouse and Elizabeth (Kushner) Youhouse Kikta.
Libby lived in Nemacolin most of her life. She graduated from Cumberland Township High School in 1943. Early on, she worked at the Nemacolin Company Store. She later worked as the cafeteria manager for Carmichaels Area School District for about fifteen years. On July 30, 1975, Libby married the late Frederick “Fred” Smitley. She was a member of Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, and a former member of the former Nemacolin Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Nemacolin Volunteer Fire Department.
Surviving are her cousins, Elizabeth "Libby" Santiago, Richard Larocco, and Laura Larocco. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph A. Youhouse; stepfather, Martin A. Kikta; aunt, Margaret McDermott, and uncle, Michael Kushner.
A committal service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, February 2, 2026, in the chapel at Greene County Memorial Park.
