George Zivkovich

George Zivkovich, 74, formerly of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away on March 1, 2024,  at his home in Beavercreek Township, OH, with his family by his side.  He was born on May 10, 1949 in Braddock, Pa., a son of the late Pearl and Eli Zivkovich.   He was a 1967 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School, and a 1971 graduate of West Virginia University, where he was a member of Mountain and Sphinx and Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.  He was a 1974 graduate of the West Virginia University School of Law.

He was a practicing attorney in Charleston, WV from 1974 to 1978 where he was appointed as the executive secretary of the Workmen’s Compensation Fund.  He was in private practice in Parkersburg, WV from 1978 until his retirement in 2018.  He served on the boards of the Parkersburg YMCA, Parkersburg Country Club, the Parkersburg Police Civil Service Commission, and was a former Parkersburg assistant city attorney.  He was a member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Carmichaels, Pa., and of Trinity Episcopal Church in Parkersburg, where he served on the Vestry.  He was an avid sports fan who loved to golf and follow the Mountaineers, Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane, their daughter Anna Rymer and son-in-law Colin Rymer; his grandchildren Bryn, Will, and James Rymer; brother Mark Zivkovich and his wife Eileen; brothers-in-law John “Duff” McIntosh and Tom Flesher; his nephews Greg Zivkovich, K.T. Flesher (Alyssa), and Christopher Flesher, and a host of cousins.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Cathy Zivkovich McIntosh.

Private family services and interment were held at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church.  Those wishing to honor George’s memory may choose to direct a gift to Cancer Care and Research at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
