James Albert Tedrow, Jr.

James Albert Tedrow, Jr., 74, of Mather, passed away after a lengthy illness of two months, on Saturday, July 4, 2026 at Washington Hospital. Born on June 24, 1952, in Brownsville, he was the son of the late James A. Tedrow, Sr. and Marjorie V. (Bevans) Tedrow.

On August 7, 1970, James married his sweetheart, Diana Kuczykowski. The following year, through 1988, he was employed by Gateway Coal Company. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. James also worked for Bentley Development, operating heavy equipment. Alongside his wife, he owned and operated D&J Catering; known for his famous woodfired rotisserie chicken.

James was affectionately known as “The Governor.” He was a kind and generous man. He and Diana always hosted family for holidays and cookouts. All of the neighborhood kids knew to come to his house on Halloween for hotdogs and Huggie drinks. In his free time, James enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, canning, and obviously, cooking. He also worked on houses with his brothers. His grandson and great-grandchildren took precedence over everything, he loved them very much.

In addition to his wife, James leaves behind his son, James Albert Tedrow, III (April) of Clarksville; grandson, Jacob James Tedrow (Sabrina Post); great-grandchildren, Chase, Eli, Emma, and Eerie; brothers, David Bevins of Illinois, and Robert Ray Tedrow (Jackie) of Jefferson; sisters, Shirley Despot (Larry), and Lorraine "Sissy" Tedrow, all of Clarksville; several nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Joy.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Tedrow, and granddaughter, Shelby Nicole Tedrow Taber.
