James H. White, 87, of Morgantown, W. Va. and formerly of Nemacolin, Pa., passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at the J. W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown. He was born February 13, 1937 in Milan, Ohio, a son of the late Harland P. and Myrtle M. (Mulvahill) White. Jim attended North Olmsted High School in Ohio and served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He moved to Nemacolin in 1966 and worked for R. G. Johnson Construction. He later worked at the Nemacolin Mine until its closing in 1987 and worked again for R. G. Johnson until his retirement. Jim was a former member of the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church in Carmichaels, Pa. where he was a member of the adult Sunday school class and active with the bus ministry. He was a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 6290 and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No 264, Morgantown. Jim had been a member of the former Moose Lodge No. 819, Carmichaels, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Clarksville, Pa. and the Greene County Citizens Club. He was a past member of the Nemacolin Volunteer Fire Company and an avid supporter of the Nemacolin Indians Little League and Carmichaels Midget Football. On May 10, 1959, he married Sharlene E. Miller, who died July 1, 2006.
Surviving are four sons, David P. White (Connie) of Morgantown, Dean M. White (Frances) of Reedsville, W. Va., James. H. White, II (Patty) of Carmichaels and Glenn Otis White of Finleyville, Pa.; 10 grandchildren, Ray White, Richard L. White, Jennifer P. Cochran, Whitney A. White, Brandon J. White, Jeffrey White, Christopher White, Brandon L. White, Tim White and David White; several great grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy J. Green of Lucas, Ohio and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a son, Wilbur L. White; a step-son, Ensil E. Miller; three brothers, Wilbur H. White, Fred J. White and Robert J. White and two sisters, Helen P. Gorman and Edith M. Hoke.
Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 7:30 P.M. on Saturday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa.
The funeral service will follow the visitation at 7:30 P.M. on Saturday with Pastor Isaac Harmon officiating.
Interment will take place at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at Greenlawn Cemetery, Crestline, Ohio.
