Jean Marie Keener, age 88 of Mapletown, Pa., passed away, surrounded by her family on Sunday, August 4, 2024 in Waynesburg Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Waynesburg, Pa. She was born June 9, 1936 in Mapletown, a daughter of the late Robert Franklin and Mabel Marie (Tanner) Watson. Mrs. Keener was a 1954 graduate of Mapletown High School and received an Associate Degree. She later worked as a cashier for many years at Brodak Shop n Save in Masontown, Pa. She was a lifelong member of the Mapletown Methodist Church where she was the Adult Choir Director and Musical Director for Vacation Bible School for many years. Mrs. Keener was a “fanatic” Pittsburgh Steelers Fan and enjoyed the bowling league in Waynesburg, playing bingo and crocheting. She loved going to the beach with her family, animals, singing and attending shows at the theatre, and her favorite colors were those red, white and blues. She was affectionately known by her friends and family as a compulsive bargain shopper, always looking for the best deals or that extra 10% off. Mrs. Keener had a special love for her pair of Clydesdale porcelain horses but her most special treasures were her grandchildren who called her Grammy and Guggy. On December 9, 1972 she married her devoted husband, Jack D. Keener, who survives.
Surviving in addition to her husband, are three daughters; Jennifer Loomis (Patrick) of Asheville, NC, Melanie Keener of Uniontown, Pa. and Leah Bennett (Christopher) of Mapletown;
Seven grandchildren; Ethan Keener, Makenzi Keener, Braden Nicklow, Reese Loomis, Archer Loomis, Devin Bennett and Ainslee Bennett; a sister, Betty Mae Waggett of Carmichaels, Pa. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Deceased in addition to her parents are two brothers; Robert “UB” Watson and William L. Watson, Sr., nephews; William L. Watson, Jr., Robby Watson and Jack K. Waggett and a brother in law, Donald Leroy Waggett.
The family gratefully acknowledges the loving care that was provided by the staff at the Healthcare Center and Amedisys Hopsice.
Family and friends are welcome from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director/Owner and Aaron S. Walker, Funeral Director, Carmichaels, Pa. where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 9, 2024 with the Rev. Lanfer Simpson officiating. Interment will follow at Monongahela Hill Cemetery. The family suggests donations be made to Catnip Acres, 1159 Morris St., Waynesburg, Pa. 15370 or the Mapletown Methodist Church, PO Box 502, Greensboro, Pa. 15338.
