Jerome F. Bartley, 70, of Carmichaels, passed away peacefully at home on May 8, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born on June 6, 1954, in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, to the late Fred and Evelyn (Javorsky) Bartley.

His formative years were spent playing baseball, running track, and tinkering with cars while navigating the halls of German Township and Albert Gallatin High School, where he would graduate in 1972. His life would be defined by the importance of education, as a student and as a teacher. He would obtain Bachelors degrees in Special Education and Elementary Education, as well as a Master's degree in Guidance Counseling, from Cal State College. Jerome would set out to educate and inspire, eventually making his way to Carmichaels Area School District. During this time, he not only taught special education classes and acted as a Guidance Counselor, but also helped guide the CASD Gifted Program, coached a variety of sports, and championed the school’s Ski Club.

Jerome would further his education by obtaining a Director of Special Education Advanced Certification and subsequently accepting that role within the Central Greene School District. His journey would not end there. Jerome would go on to secure a Doctorate in Education from the University of Pittsburgh (Hail to Pitt!) and spend the next decade dedicated to CGSD as their Superintendent. During his tenure, he was incredibly proud of advancements in music education, career preparation programs, and technological capabilities.

Jerome also lent his expertise and passion to higher education. For years, he taught advanced coursework at multiple universities and served as a supervisor of student teachers at California University of Pennsylvania.

Jerome was highly involved in various community and fraternal organizations. He was a proud member of Valley Lodge 459, F. & A. M., Masontown and the Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Pittsburgh. He also belonged to the Scullton Rod & Gun Club, the Pitt University Club, the Greene County Industrial Development Authority, and the Alumni Association of the University of Pittsburgh.

He was an avid outdoorsman and found great joy in fishing and hunting trips with friends and family, especially near his cabin in Rockwood. He could frequently be found cultivating his garden, listening to jazz, reading a Grisham novel, or watching a James Bond film. His greatest love, however, was his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Marilynn Bartley; children, Jason Bartley (son with former spouse Kim Bartley) and his wife Elizabeth of Peters Township, Matthew Antonelli of Los Angeles, CA, and Christina Antonelli of Carmichaels; and grandchildren, Zealand, Lily, Karis, Callan, and Noah. He took great pride in teaching them billiards, beating them at board games, watching them swim, and introducing them to the great outdoors. He is also survived by his faithful companion, Addie, who was always at his side.

Along with his parents, Jerome was preceded in death by his sister, Karen Clark.
