John George Barich, 94, of Carmichaels, died on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at Independence Court Personal Care Home, Monroeville Pa. after a brief illness. He was born June 4, 1926, in Crucible Pa., the son of the late Matthew and Catherine (Shefcheck) Barich. John served in the U. S. Army in the Eastern European Theater during World War II from 1944 until 1946. He was a member of the Cumberland American Legion Post 400 and Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 3491 in Carmichaels. John retired after 20 years as a coal miner and 15 years as owner of a Pennzoil garage in Carmichaels. On August 26, 1950, he married
Stella M. Dmochowsky,
of Bobtown Pa., who died March 23, 2013.
Surviving are a son, David J. Barich and his wife, Mary Beth, of Mokena Ill.; a daughter, Janice Marie Kourniotis and her husband, Clifford, of Penn Hills, Pa.; five grandchildren, David M. Barich and his wife, Jeannette, and their two children, Andrew and Kinsley; Michael J. Barich and his wife, Bridgette, and their son, Jacob; Paul R. Barich and his fiancée, Samantha Shear; Stephen J. Barich and his wife, Karen, and Alexa (Kourniotis) Day and her husband, David.
There will be no public viewing, and all arrangements are private. Private interment will take place at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Point Marion.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to either Cumberland American Legion Post 400 or to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491, Carmichaels, Pa.
