John Rush Hoy

John Rush Hoy, 83, of Carmichaels, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 16, 2026. Born on April 9, 1943, he was the son of the late W. Edison Hoy and Anice R. Davis.

John proudly and honorably served his country as a First Cavalry Helicopter Gunner in the United States Army, completing two tours in Vietnam. For his bravery and sacrifice, he was recognized with the Purple Heart. Upon completion of his service, John worked as a coal miner at the Dilworth Mine, U.S. Steel, for 19 years. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America, and also a member of the Cumberland American Legion Post 400.

In his spare time, John enjoyed boating, often at the Jessop Boat Club. He was a collector of both coins and stamps. As a diehard Steelers fan, John never missed an opportunity to cheer on his team.

His memory will be carried on through his son, James "Jimmy" Hoy of Carmichaels; daughters, Jonni Hoy of Crucible, and Pam Hoy; grandson, Alexander Hoy of Rices Landing; great-granddaughters, Jayde Hoy and Joslyn McNaughton, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death, by his siblings, Thomas Hoy, Peggy Litten, and James Hoy; and his stepfather, Clarence "Ked" Davis.

Family and friends are welcome from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Yoskovich Funeral Home, Inc., Carmichaels. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 in the funeral home with Pastor Andrew Gump officiating. Interment will follow at Claughton Chapel Cemetery, 1552 Big Shannon Run Rd, Waynesburg, PA 15370.
