John Edward Petros, 76, of Clarksville, PA, was called home following a short yet courageous battle with cancer, leaving behind a legacy defined by love, hard work, and treasured family memories.

Born in Waynesburg, PA, John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose life was marked by quiet strength, unwavering dedication, and deep love for those closest to him.

A graduate of Jefferson-Morgan High School in 1968, John began his working life as an auto body technician before finding his calling in the coal industry. he joined Gateway Coal Mine near Waynesburg in Greene County, PA, a major underground bituminous coal operation within the Pittsburgh seam. Through perseverance, skill, and unrelenting work ethic, he rose steadily through the ranks to become a respected Longwall Boss, a position he held until the mine's closure.

Following the decline of mining in the region, John once again demonstrated his resilience by forging a new path. He joined an asphalt crew in Maryland as a laborer, where his determination and natural ability quickly earned him the role of paver operator. In this capacity, he and his crew contributed to the construction of hundreds of miles of roadway across Maryland and Pennsylvania - work that stands as a lasting testament to his diligence and pride in a job well done.

Beyond his career, John was a man of remarkable skill and resourcefulness. Gifted with a natural ability to fix and build, he found great satisfaction working in his garage, always engaged in a project. He was most at peace outdoors - hunting, fishing, and tending to his beloved garden, which he cared for with immense pride. He also shared a special bond with his faithful companions, Murphy and Abby, whose presence brought him comfort and joy.

John is survived by his loving wife, Kandes Petros, whose partnership and devotion were central to his life. He will be forever remembered by his children, John Petros (Maria) of Colorado, Chad Petros of Clarksville, and Mandie Petros (Paul) of Bentleyville, PA; as well as his stepchildren, Kristi Pysch (Craig) of Ellsworth and Richard Mowl III (Carla) of Amity, PA.

He took great pride in his role as grandfather to Nathan, Jordan, Nina, and Paxton Petros; Micaela Schoedel (Eric), Zachary Pysh, Chelsie Hagan (Ethan), James Anderson (dawn), Alexis and Ella Mowl. He was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren.

John is also survived by his siblings, Juanita Booze (Gerald) of Delta and Joseph Petros (Nancy) of Clarksville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Margaret "Margy" Petros, and his sister, Wanda Rollison.

In accordance with John's wishes, there will be no public viewing. A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 6th, in the Social Hall at St. Marcellus Catholic Church, Jefferson, PA to honor the man he was and the lasting impact he leaves behind.

John's legacy lives on in the roads he helped build, the lessons he passed down, and the love he shared so freely. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Arrangements are entrusted to Yoskovich Funeral Home, Inc. Carmichaels, PA.
