John Andrew Volchko, 79, of Carmichaels, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. He was born on March 30, 1947, in Uniontown, the son of the late John & Anna Sidor Volchko.

John was a graduate of Father Kolb Memorial High School in Masontown, Class of 1965. Answering the call to serve, John gave 20 distinguished years to the United States Army. Following his military service, John continued his commitment to serving others by working as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in Carmichaels for 20 years. Later, he drove school buses for M & R Transit, transporting students in the Laurel Highlands School District. On December 23, 1993, he married his beloved wife, Marlene Rygle, who survives.

John was an enthusiastic sports fan. He was a season ticket holder for Pitt Panthers football. His hobbies included golfing and cooking for his family and friends.

John was an active of several community organizations. He was a member of the American Legion Masontown 423, the Masontown Italian Club, and the Pal’s Club in Masontown. He was also a member of St. Matthias Parish at St. Hugh in Carmichaels.

Along with his wife, John is survived by his daughter, Julie Volchko of Mannheim, Germany; brother, Daniel Volchko (companion, Jamie Ewart) of Masontown; niece, Randi Chapman (Michael); nephew, Jimbo Wolfe (Kristi); brothers-in-law, Dale Kessler, Chucky Rygle (Sandy L.), and Mickey Rygle; sisters-in-law, Darlene Wolfe (Jimmy), and Maryann Rygle; and extended family, Chelsea and Michael Ott.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dave Volchko; sister, Christine Kessler, and sister-in-law, Sandy E. Rygle.

Family and friends are welcome from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at Yoskovich Funeral Home, Inc., Carmichaels. Prayers of Transfer will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, August 3, 2026 in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 A.M. at St. Matthias Parish at St. Hugh, 408 Rt. 88, Carmichaels, with Rev. Thomas Lewandowski as celebrant. Interment will follow at Laurel Point Cemetery, with full military honors accorded by the United States Army Honor Guard, Masontown VFW Faith-Grey-McArdle Post 4585 and the American Legion Post 423 Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to the Greene County Humane Society.
