With the heaviest of hearts, the family of Lois Ann Mocniak announces her unexpected passing on January 23, 2025. Lois was born December 29, 1950 at home in Ralph, Pa. to the late Louis and Ann (Lukasik) Kukuchka. She and her husband of 44 years, Marty, have resided in Sugar Grove, Greene County, Pa. where they raised their children, a daughter Ann Parker (Tab) and son Doug Mocniak (Leanne). Together, they all will continue to be grateful for the patience, wisdom and care she selflessly gave them, along with many special memories that will continue to be spoken of and cherished always.
A 1968 graduate of Mapletown High School, Lois was proud of her 46 year career with the Greene County Housing Authority. She served as the executive director for nearly 30 of those years. While there, she helped the authority grow to accommodate the county's high needs while maintaining its high performing status. Being able to provide people who were struggling with affordable housing was what she found to be most rewarding.
For the last seven years, Lois spent her retirement doing things she enjoyed such as growing her garden in the summer to make her famous salsa by the dozens, boating on the river with Marty, lengthy phone conversations with her daughter, and helping babysit her son's kids in a pinch. You could most always find her in the kitchen whipping up a new recipe or bingeing a good television show. Lois also enjoyed watching and caring for the wildlife that shared her peaceful, scenic yard.
Lois loved having both her sisters living nearby, Paulette Dankovich (the late Frank) and Renee Clites (Bob) with whom she shared a special bond and for which she was most thankful. She also admired her two brothers Louie Kukuchka (Tina) and Jack Kukuchka.
Ella, age 14, Reese, age 14, Lilah, age seven and Lane, age three made Lois an adored Grammy. Whether it was the unlimited treats or allowing them to explore and make all the messes, everything was always more fun at Grammy's house!
Lois was also very loved by her extended family. In addition to those mentioned above, sisters and brothers-in-law, Francine, Randy (Robin), Jacki (Doug Wade) and Judi (Tom Pekar) and close cousins, Johnette, Nikki, Irene, Susan, Joe, and the late Christine, and very special nieces and nephews.
Lois had many close friends since childhood, prior co-workers and especially "the crew" at Jessop Boat Club. She served as the president of the Lady's Auxiliary at the club helping and planning for their many activities.
Lois will always be remembered for her warm presence, the most playful sense of humor, and of course her drink of choice, a Bud Light with a glass of ice!
Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. on Tuesday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Martin J. Yoskovich, F.D./Owner, Aaron S. Walker, F.D., 300 South Vine Street, Carmichaels, Pa.
In lieu of gifts or flowers, the family sincerely asks that any donations be made in Lois' honor to the Humane Society of Greene County, Waynesburg, Pa.
