Marian Carol Hockenberry Fiedor passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. She was born on August 17, 1947, to the late Dale Marion Hockenberry and the late Sue Carolyn Hockenberry. In addition to her parents, Marian was preceded in death by her longtime companion, Al Falcone.
Marian was raised in Nemacolin and graduated from Carmichaels Area High School in 1965. She then enrolled in the last three-year diploma program at Washington (Pa.) Hospital School of Nursing where she was co-chairman of the Judiciary Court and chorus member. After graduation, Marian worked at Washington Hospital for three years on the orthopedic ward. In 1971, she moved to Northern Virginia and worked as a registered nurse at the Fairfax Hospital. Marian spent nine years in orthopedics followed by many years on the IV team as the assistant coordinator. Keeping certified involved traveling to numerous seminars all over the United States, which she greatly enjoyed. While working full time, Marian earned her bachelor of science degree at George Mason University. She became a lifelong member of Sigma Theta Tau, the international honor society of nurses. Marian also studied toward an MBA at Strayer College/Loudon County.
Marian remained in Herndon, Virginia until 2004, when what was to be a short term visit with her family in Pennsylvania, turned into a permanent move to Carmichaels. She spent as much time as she could with her parents until their passing in 2011. Hoping to return to nursing, she maintained her registered nurse licenses in both Pennsylvania and Virginia.
Marian was a member of the former Nemacolin Presbyterian Church where she sang in the Senior Choir, led the Junior Choir, and taught Sunday School. She was a member of the 4-H Club. Marian was a past member of the Carmichaels Red Hatters and the Carmichaels Civic Club, and a current member of the P. Buckley Moss Society.
As her health declined, she relied on the help of Bruce Mallory, for which the family is deeply grateful. Marian is survived by her sister, Susan Brioli (Richard); her brother, David Hockenberry (Jean); her good friend, Bruce Mallory, her aunt and uncle in Georgia, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends in Carmichaels and Virginia.
There will be no public viewing and a time to celebrate her life is being planned for the Spring of 2024.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the memorial fund at the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, PO Box 363, Carmichaels, PA 15320.
