Mark W. Long

Mark W. Long, 70, of Carmichaels, Pa. passed away on Monday, December 2, 2024 at the J. W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W. Va. He was born January 26, 1954 in Charleroi, Pa., a son of the late John L. Long and Louise M. (Shoaf) Long Peck.  Mark served in the U. S. Army as a code interceptor during Vietnam and also served in the Pennsylvania National Guard.  He worked at the Vesta 4 Mine, Banning Mine, Shannopin Mine and retired from the Emerald Mine.  After retirement, Mark worked part time at the Carmichaels Senior Center.  He resided in Carmichaels since 1982 and enjoying working outdoors.  Mark attended the Greensboro Baptist Church and participated in the church's bible study.  In addition, he was a member of Cumberland American Legion Post 400.  Mark would lend a helping hand to anyone in need and his grandchildren were the "love of his life".  On January 3, 1973, he married Wendy R. Heilman, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Renee Bennett (Barry, Jr.) of Carmichaels and Tina Trainor (Mark), at home; five grandchildren, Eric Bennett, Brandon Bennett, Nathan Bennett, Chad Trainor (friend, Kiera Santoyo) and Corey Trainor; two sisters, Diane Rayburn Hicks of Toledo, Ohio and Charlene Hare (Jim) of Ashtabula, Ohio; his "adopted" daughter, Becky Neely (Lance) and their children and his beloved fur baby, Hershey. Deceased is a niece, Cheryl Rayburn.

Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. on Friday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 7, 2024.  Pastor Tim Tanner will officiate.

Interment will follow at Laurel Point Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Greene County Honor Guard and the U. S. Army.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made toward autism awareness.
