Mary Catherine Keener, 96, of McClellandtown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025. She was born on May 14, 1929, in Georges Township, to the late Andrew Plencher.
Mary Catherine was a 1948 graduate of Georges Township High. After high school, she attended Uniontown Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1951. Mary Catherine went on to work at Uniontown Hospital, Greene County Memorial Hospital, Huffman Medical Associates in Waynesburg, and the office of Dr. Lawrence Martin, where she retired from her long and rewarding career in nursing. Mary Catherine was a faithful member of Grace Chapel Presbyterian Church, where she served on the Session as an elder, and also as the church treasurer. On March 14, 1952, she married Donald E. Keener, Sr. Together, they shared 65 wonderful years until his passing in August of 2017.
She will be lovingly remembered by her three sons, Donald E. Keener, Jr. (Cindy) of Masontown, Scott A. Keener of Castle Shannon, and Jeffrey A. Keener (Kristin) of McClellandtown; three grandchildren, Jessica Keener Bucceri (Brian), Amanda Keener Mayer (Ryan), and Jeffrey Keener, Jr. (Danielle); five great grandchildren, Jacob Bucceri, Philip Bucceri, Addison Mayer, Jax Keener, and Ryder Keener; a brother-in-law, Nelson Keener (Diane) of Indianapolis, Indiana; a sister-in-law, Carrie Keener of Michigan, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her beloved husband and father, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Slavin (Pete), and Sally Katrenchak (Alex).
The family extends their deep appreciation for the wonderful care provided by the Addison of Uniontown and Amedisys Hospice.
Family and friends are welcome from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, May 26, 2025 at Yoskovich Funeral Home, Inc., Carmichaels, Pa. A service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 in the funeral home, with Rev. Lee McDermott officiating. Interment will follow at Church Hill Cemetery, McClellandtown.
In a testament to her desire to continue serving even after her passing, Mary Catherine wished for donations to be made to Grace Chapel Presbyterian Church, 1214 Walnut Hill Rd., Smithfield, Pa. 15478.
