Mary "Peggy" Yoney

Mary Eloise "Peggy" Yoney, of Carmichaels, formerly of Bobtown, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on November 17, 1940, in Core, West Virginia, Peggy was the daughter of Clarence E. and Bernice A. (Yost) Matthews.

Peggy was a graduate of Clay-Battelle High School in Blacksville, West Virginia. She dedicated her life to her faith, her family and her community. She was a longtime member of the Bobtown United Methodist Church. In her younger years, she was a bible school teacher, involved with the youth group, and helped with vacation bible school in the summers. When she moved to Carmichaels, she became a member of the Carmichaels Methodist Church. Later in life, she was very active at the Senior Center in Carmichaels, where she served as their secretary, keeping the minutes for board meetings. She found joy in reading, and loved dining out. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends, creating memories they will all now cherish.  

Peggy is survived by her loving sons, James Yoney of Mount Morris and Jeffrey Yoney (Gwen) of Point Marion; daughter, Sherry Kern (Douglas) of Carmichaels; grandchildren, Andrew, Brittany, Travis, Daisy, Hunter, Faith, and Jada; great-grandchildren, Blake, Devon, Kenton, and Ryan; brothers, Kenneth Matthews and Charles "Jake" Matthews, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Debra Yoney; son, John Yoney, Jr.; granddaughter, Michelle Demidovich; sisters, Martha Phillips, Margaret Matthews, and Shirley Matthews; brothers, Clarence Matthews, Ralph Matthews, Robert Matthews, and Donald Matthews; and her former husband, John Franklin Yoney, Sr.

Family and friends are welcome from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. on Sunday, August 31, 2025 at Yoskovich Funeral Home, Inc., where a service will immediately follow with Rev. Gale Cobb officiating.
