Matilda Eliza Carter, of Carmichaels, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at the age of 101. Born on March 10, 1925, in Waynesburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late John L. and Hazel (Zimmerman) Fox.
Matilda was a life-long resident of Greene County and a member of Greene Valley Presbyterian Church. Being a centenarian, she experienced dirt roads becoming paved highways, being educated in one-room schoolhouses, and horse and buggy transitioning to automobiles. She found joy in tending to her garden and quilting, devoting a great deal of time ensuring that each of her children and grandchildren had their own quilts. She also enjoyed baking and was famous for her berry pies.
Her legacy will be carried on through her sons, Lloyd L. Carter, Jr., Floyd P. Carter (Patti), and Glen W. Carter, all of Carmichaels; 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald Fox of Lakewood, Ohio, and Ronald Fox of Strongsville, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Fred and Joseph Carter; brothers, Pete, Jim, Allen, and John Fox; and sisters, Rosa Phillips, Dorothy Rush-Clark, Betty Workman, Thelma Fletcher, and Phyllis Thomas.
Family and friends are welcome from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at Yoskovich Funeral Home, Inc., Carmichaels. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, July 13, 2026 in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Greene County Memorial Park.
