Melanie A. Katusa, 66, of Lorton, Va. and formerly of Carmichaels, Pa., passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 in her home. She was born October 8, 1955 in Fort Bragg, N.C., a daughter of the late John H. and Dorothy D. (Krucker) Katusa. Melanie was a 1974 graduate of Carmichaels Area High School and a former member of the St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church in Carmichaels. She earned her masters degree in education from California State College and moved to Virginia where she worked in the service and hospitality industry. Melanie was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers Football fan and her passions were her family and pets.
Surviving are her longtime companion, Roy Waldschmidt; three sisters, Debbie Batis (Dave) of Carmichaels, Karen Romah (Phil) of Garards Fort, Pa. and Joetta Andrews of Carmichaels and several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to her parents are two sisters, Johnna Cumpston and Dorothy "Cootsy" Katusa.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 23, 2022 at St. Matthias Parish at St. Hugh, 408 Route 88, Carmichaels with the Rev. J. Francis Frazer as celebrant.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society of Greene County, 183 Jefferson Road, Waynesburg, PA 15370.
