Merle E. Shaffer, 65, of Carmichaels, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at his brother's residence in Masontown, Pa. He was born October 19, 1955 in Cleveland, Ohio, a son of the late Merle L. and Pearl E. (Clark) Shaffer. Merle resided in Greene County, Pa. most of his life and served in the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam Era. He drove tractor trailer most of his life and was a classic car and motorcycle enthusiast and an avid outdoor sportsman. Merle was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6303, Greensboro, Pa., and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491 and Cumberland American Legion Post 400, both of Carmichaels.
Surviving are a son, David M. Shaffer (Darla) of Republic, Pa.; a daughter, Brandi Lynn Merritt (Robert) of Conroe, Tex.; four grandchildren, Adam Merritt, Dylan Hladinec, Colton Shaffer and Dustin Shaffer; two brothers, Lloyd R. Shaffer (Annetta) of Carmichaels and Ricky L. Shaffer (Joy) of Masontown; a sister, Vicky L. Shaffer Novak (Jeff) of Greensboro; a brother-in-law, Dave Phillips of Garards Fort, Pa. and several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to his parents is a sister, Darlene F. Phillips.
Family and friends are welcome from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M., the hour of service on Saturday, October 31, 2020 in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. The Rev. H. David McElroy will officiate.
Per the recommendation of the Centers for Disease Control, social distancing and face masks will be required in the funeral home.
The Greene County Honor Guard will accord military honors at the funeral home immediately after the funeral service.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to a local veterans organization.
