Roy J. Anderson, Sr.

Roy J. Anderson, Sr., 95, of Dilliner, Pa., died on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, of complications from COVID-19 in the Mon Health Medical Center, Morgantown, W.Va. He was born on Browns Hill in Fayette County, Pa. to Charles Austin and Iva Myrtle (Mcie/Mackey) Anderson but spent most of his youth in Moffitt, Dilliner. Roy was an avid hunter and fisherman and was well versed in many mechanical and woodworking skills, proudly maintaining his own home and vehicles, his endeavor for perfection evidenced in each project.

An Army veteran of World War II, Roy served in the Western European Theater where he formed close bonds with many members of his unit, keeping contact with them after the close of the war. He was a Protestant by faith, having attended both Methodist and Baptist churches.

Roy worked as a coal miner, first in the Moffitt Mine until it closed, and then in the Shannopin Mine in Bobtown, Pa. until his retirement. Until his death, he remained a staunch United Mine Workers Union supporter.

Roy was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 64 years, Betty Deloris (Griffin) Anderson, who died in 2010. He is survived by two sons and a daughter, Roy J. Anderson, Jr. and his wife, Vicki (Devault), of New Salem, Pa., Aleta Harris and her husband, Wesley, of Spring Hill, Fla. and Barry Anderson and his wife, Debra (Sheranko) of Mascot, Tenn.; four grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Deceased are his sister, Marie "Toots" Zaby and six brothers, Arthur Anderson, Omer Anderson, Hugh Anderson, Arley Anderson, Austin "Junior" Anderson and James "Rob" Anderson.

Due to the current health restrictions, there will be no viewing or funeral service. Private interment will take place at Wolf's Cemetery, Dilliner.
