Stephen Matiyasic, 72, of Carmichaels, Pa. and formerly of Fredericktown, Pa., passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 in his home. He was born July 4, 1951 in Brownsville, Pa., a son of the late Amel and Helen (Radinich) Matiyasic. Mr. Matiyasic was a graduate of Bethlehem-Center High School and served in the United States Navy. He retired as a deckhand for Mon River Towing, Inc. Mr. Matiyasic was an avid Elvis fan and enjoyed building model cars and playing spoons. On May 12, 1979, he married Dorothy J. Kolat, who survives.
Also surviving are five children, Sean Matiyasic (Markie) of Carmichaels, Joshua Matiyasic (Robin) of Prosperity, Pa., Stephanie Skobel (Justin) of Clarksville, Pa., Tera Shashura (Bobby) of Fredericktown and Stephen Matiyasic of Marianna, Pa.; nine grandchildren, Leo Matiyasic, Layla Matiyasic, Colby Matiyasic, Dayton Stevulak, Dalton Johnston, Trinity Skobel, Jacob Skobel, Dylan Shashura and Blake Shashura; two great granddaughters, Cadence Corey and Violet Johnston; two sisters, Margie Brown of Fredericktown and Annamarie Mikalik (Mike) of Carmichaels and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are four brothers, Jerry Matiyasic, Tommy Matiyasic, Nick Pordash and Pete Pordash and three sisters, Mary Ann Sherry, Ginny Valenzuela and Bernice Skobel.
Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 7:30 P.M. on Monday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa.
A blessing service will follow the visitation at 7:30 P.M. on Monday with the Rev. James B. Farnan officiating.
The family is requesting contributions to help with funeral expenses.
