Obituary

William A. Novak, "Bill aka Pap", 88, of Carmichaels, formerly of Rices Landing, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2026. Bill was born on February 17, 1938, and was raised in Bobtown, Pa., the oldest son to the late Andrew Jr. and Anna Cettin Novak.

Bill graduated from Mapletown High School in 1956 where he was a standout basketball player. He was accepted on a full basketball scholarship to Waynesburg College, graduating in the Class of 1960 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Following graduation, Bill was an educator for 35 years in Annapolis, Maryland, Ben Franklin in Uniontown, Pa., and lastly, finishing his career as an English teacher at his alma mater, Mapletown High School in Greensboro, Pa.

Bill was an avid sports fan. He a had a love for all the hometown teams, with the Penguins being his favorite. He also enjoyed antiquing, polka music, gardening/canning and was known for infamous bread and butter pickles, salsa, and zucchini relish. He found great joy in visiting flea markets and farmers markets where he proudly shared his homegrown vegetables. Above all, his favorite pastime was spending time with his family. Bill was a member of The Greene Valley Presbyterian Church in Carmichaels, Pa.

Surviving is his wife, Myrna (Cunningham) Novak, whom he married in 1991. He will be remembered by his children, Leah Novak-Daniel (Kevin), Deborah Novak-Dugan (Christopher), Brian Douglas Novak (Shawn Peggs), Kelly Sabol, Christy Sabol, and Cindy Demniak (David). He was a very proud Pap to Andrew Novak, Emily Novak, Aubrey Marcolini Mick (Nathan), Brian Dugan, Mark Dugan, Elizabeth Dugan, Michael Glover (Janna), Meredith Harrison, Hollie Berryman (Allen), Macey Leech (Jason), and Hayden Demniak, and great grandfather to Emmeline McCluskey, Millie Mick, Maggie Mick, Lucas Glover, Madelyn Glover, Jameson Berryman and Jackson Berryman. Bill is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his oldest son, William David Novak, and son, Michael Wibert Sabol, his younger brother, Richard P. Novak, and Rich's wife, Patricia Novak.

All arrangements are private and entrusted to Yoskovich Funeral Home, Inc., Carmichaels.
